The Center for Gifted Education at the University of Louisiana at Çàɬֱ²¥ will once again provide two enriching programs for Summer 2007. These programs offer a variety of academic and arts courses from which students may choose.
The Summer Scholars Residential Program is a week-long program for students in the 7th through 9th grades. This year Summer Scholars will be held from June 10 - 15 and 17- 22. Çàɬֱ²¥s can register for either week.
The Summer Scholars program identifies and nurtures academically gifted students. Participants choose daily classes from a variety of academic and arts areas, as well as a course in leadership.
To qualify for Summer Scholars, a student must present satisfactory scores on a standardized test of mental ability or academic achievement from school. Çàɬֱ²¥s who are classified as academically gifted by state standards automatically qualify for the program.
The program has proven highly successful, with both participants and their parents reporting increases in academic motivation, self-concept and creative production.
All Louisiana residents receive a discount on tuition and more scholarship funds for tuition are available for students whose families qualify on a financial needs basis.
The Academic Enrichment Program serves students currently in kindergarten through eighth grade. AEP offers two-week afternoon sessions of mini-courses in science, the arts, computing and many other areas of interest for academically-talented and creative students.
The dates for this program are June 11- 21 and July 9 - 19. To qualify, a student must be recommended by his/her classroom teacher or present satisfactory scores on a standardized test of mental ability or academic achievement.
