State of LA Danse: Classical Purity, Urban Edge

Published

UL 青涩直播鈥檚 Performing Arts Department will present its eagerly awaited dance concert, State of LA Danse, Nov. 17-19 and Nov. 20 in Angelle Hall.

Appropriate for the whole family, this annual concert is described as 鈥渃lassical purity and urban edge in an evening of sublime concert dance.鈥

The 2005 production will include the beloved romantic ballet classic Swan Lake, Act II re-staged by Catherine Hebert after Petipa. Ashley Ellis from the American Ballet Theater in New York City will perform the principal roles.

Assistant Professor John Allen of Tulane University will present the world premiere of a new work entitled Waiting Room. The work was specifically choreographed for the dancers in UL 青涩直播鈥檚 Performing Arts Department. Allen is a guest modern dance choreographer at the university and is also the co-director of Tsunami Dance Company.

UL 青涩直播 Assistant Professor of Dance Kenneth L. Jenkins will also premiere a work entitled Ritual Fragments set to a musical score by Michael Torke. An extremely physical work, Ritual Fragments is the choreographer鈥檚 exploration into the role and need of ritual in an increasingly fragmented society.

Completing the program will be a solo performance by UL 青涩直播 graduate Francine Ott, who earned a BFA degree in 2003. She choreographed her solo and performed it first in April during the prestigious New Steps Choreographers鈥 Series at the Mulberry Street Theatre in New York City.

Tickets for State of LA Danse are $12 for the general public and $8 for students and senior citizens. UL 青涩直播 students are admitted free with a valid ID. Some tickets will be available at the door but advance ticket purchase is strongly recommended.

Tickets are available at the 青涩直播 Union Ticket Office (482-6940). For more information, contact the Performing Arts Department at 482-6357.
